What will I need to hire a vehicle?
A current full driver's licence held for a minimum of 12 months. You will need to provide your current driving license and NI number or a driving license check code.
In general, we can hire out to drivers with 8 or fewer points on their licence (accrued over the past 5 years). In some cases however, if the offence was more serious, we may have to decline to hire.
We also need two forms of identification. These must show the same address as your driving licence; for example, recent utilities' bills, bank or building society statements, all dated within the last 3 months. A passport is not acceptable as it does not contain your address. This also applies to any secondary drivers that are insured.
We also require a credit or debit card. This will be required for the deposit and the hire charge, which will be taken at the time of hire. Please make sure there is enough credit available on your card. The card holder is required to be present.
If the cardholder is not the hirer, please ring the local office first!
How old do I have to be? For insurance purposes, you'll need to be over 25 and under 70 years of age to hire a vehicle from Alfold Vehicle Hire. All drivers must have had a full and valid driving licence for at least 12 months. However, please contact us if you're between 21 to 24 years of age as we may still be able to assist you.
What is included? The prices we show, or quote, are subject to VAT which will be added to the cost of the hire. The hire price includes breakdown cover, insurance and unlimited mileage. In addition, a £350 deposit will be held, and charged in the event of damage or returning with less fuel.
Can I have an additional driver? An additional driver is free of charge. For any further drivers, there is a charge of £8.33 plus VAT for the hire. A maximum of 4 drivers are allowed, unless previously agreed.
How can I pay? All major credit and debit cards are welcome, including Visa, Mastercard and Switch. Whole or part payment of charges may be required by credit or debit card. Outstanding payments are taken from credit or debit cards.
What if I'm late returning the vehicle, or I want to extend the hire? It is very important that you contact us and let us know. We can then advise you of any additional charges and - if required - can arrange payment and insurance cover by debiting your credit or debit card. Alternatively, additional charges can be covered by monies brought in by you at the time of extending the hire period.
What happens if I breakdown? In the unlikely event of your vehicle breaking down, please note that all Alfold Vehicle Hire vehicles come with full nationwide breakdown coverage. Details of this will be included with the documents given to you at the time of hire. It is important that you keep these with you.
